Extra keys are invisible but can still be pressed.

I have previously installed termux on another device with no issues but on my new Pixel 7a the extra key row is invisible. I can press the buttons that should appear in that area but I can't tell what button I have pressed until I see what happens in the terminal. Is there a fix for this? Is there an issue with my device or some sort of compatibility issue?

Picture above shows the area where it should be. As you can see I managed to press the left arrow to move the cursor but there are no visible buttons.
I am on the latest Android 14 if that info helps.
