How to create a background gradient that covers the whole page (including below the fold)?

I am trying to add a gradient on the whole page through

  body {
    @apply bg-gradient-to-b from-gray-300 to-gray-100;
  }
 (...)

The result looks great when refreshing the page, but stops at the page fold:

Is it possible to cover the whole page, including the area under the fold that will be revealed once th page is scrolled down?
