support css variables in old browsers and pdf libraries (mpdf)

I added the postCss custom properties plugin as described in the docs here: https://tailwindcss.com/docs/using-with-preprocessors#variables

but when in view the complied css code or view the class properties in the browser I expect to see the property with the value of the variable but I that didn't happen
