Upgrading from 1.7 to 2.1 causes Maximum update depth exceeded error.

Ran into some pretty weird issues with this one. The error is not consistent. It occurs sometimes and the other times it does not. I am not able to link any code as I am not able to pinpoint exactly what, why and when this occurs. For the upgrade I just followed the guide from the release notes. When I revert the upgrade, everything works fine. Any suggestions would be helpful, thanks!
