How to rebind "M-i" in normal state in terminal?

I have these two lines inside my dotspacemacs/user-config , following the docs:

  (define-key evil-motion-state-map (kbd "M-i") 'evil-jump-forward)
  (define-key evil-normal-state-map (kbd "M-i") 'evil-jump-forward)

But they don't seem to have any effect after I restart Spacemacs 😕
If I do eval-region on them, it works alright
I think I may be doing something wrong..

Maybe I've overlooked something, but I don't think the docs mention this kind of method.
