m1 mac - spacemacs loops when saving #15810

Hi
I have started using emacs (spacemacs) on my m1 mac and have found that on occasion when saving it goes into an unrecoverable loop. The only way out is a kill <pid>. Any suggestions on how I can figure out what is causing this and hopefully fixing it ?
