[BUG] [P1] Native Crash when closing "Card Scan"

Summary

When clicking "x" within the card scan camera x activity, sometimes a crash will occur.

What is blocked by this issue?

If my application crashes because a user canceled card scan, they are not able to check out.

Code to reproduce

We are just using a standard issue Stripe-Android 21.26.1, using implementation for the base sdk and card scan (using the same version).

The only note worthy thing here is that we exclude compose navigation dependency

because including this causes a navigation shadow conflict with Compose Destination library that causes its own crash.

Excluding navigation allows the app to work normally. I am not sure if this is related to the card scan crash or not, because without excluding this I am not able to make it to the checkout at all.

Android version

Android API 35.

Impacted devices

Tried on Emulator, and a physical Samsung device. Both reproduced.

Through Android Studio/ADB.

My motivation for upgrading was to support 16kb paging in our app, but I believe this could be a potential camerax issue. It seems that cardscan was migrated to camerax in a timeline that makes it impossible to support 16kb paging without having this issue. Please let me know if I am wrong.

Hi @sonrohan we're aware of some issues with our current card scan implementation, and we're actively working on fixes.

We're also experiencing this same issue. We also noticed that the CardScanSheet is deprecated but I couldn't find anywhere in your documentation what would be the modern alternative.

Sorry -- I don't want to create too much noise. But I just wanted to note that I went back and removed compose destination dependency from our app, and tried the latest 21.28.0 library and still see the same crash. I am just pointing it out to rule out that compose destinations was the cause of this specific issue. Just wanted to state it for the record is all.

Hi team. I encountered the same issue on 21.29.0 but without the same setup from the original reporter , we don't have this in our integration, so this is probably unrelated.

I noticed these logs , which could mean (I may be wrong on this) that the issue lays in a low level threading cancelling (or corrupting) the Activity's main thread which launching the ScanCardSheet when the user closes the scan sheet.

Hopefully these logs can help when troubleshooting.
