Description
As noted in srophe/Gaddel#4, there are several URIs in our persons and places data that do not resolve. This issue can track the data updates needed.
Here are the URI sources we have in persons:
- Syriaca.org
- VIAF: some inconsistencies and errors ( a few use
viaf.net
, for example) - VIAF Source ID. E.g., http://viaf.org/viaf/sourceID/SRP|person_10. Don't seem to resolve; likely check if these duplicate the canonical VIAF URI
- Google Books. These don't resolve, and should instead be bibl citations if anything
- CBSC. Deprecate these
- WorldCat Identities. This project is now discontinued (https://www.oclc.org/research/areas/data-science/identities.html). It was replaced, it seems, by the WorldCat Entities project (e.g., https://id.oclc.org/worldcat/entity/E39PBJv8CQJVWD4YgbdhWQQXh3). We could set a student on replacing these 240ish cases
- Wikipedia (English and German). Fine as-is
- WorldCat OCLC. The few of these that do resolve resolve to bibliographic entries, so should be moved to citations not URIs for the person record
- John of Ephesus Prospography. Fine as-is
- Syriac Studies .com. Only one case, https://syriacstudies.com/AFSS/Syriac_Scholars_and_Writers/Entries/2008/3/19_1-_Wafa_the_Aramaean.html, which no longer resolves
- Roger Pearse Wiki. Only one case, https://roger-pearse.com/wiki/index.php?title=Simeon_the_Potter. It resolves, but I'm not sure it should be treated as a URI?
- Pinakes. Fine as-is
- Late Antique Historiography (Clavis Historicorum Antiquitatis Posterioris). Fine as-is
- Cat. INIST. These don't resolve, e.g. http://cat.inist.fr/?aModele=afficheN&cpsidt=12769168. Not sure what this project is since the base URL also doesn't resolve?
- JTS url. One case, http://jts.oxfordjournals.org/content/38/2/431.citation, resolves to a journal article so should be citation not URI
For places, the only ones to deprecate are CBSC browse links. Otherwise, it would be useful to normalize how the Pleiades URIs are structured and to check a few cases of dbpedia URIs that lack the http string
