Component examples do not work. So frustrating!!

I've been trying to figure this out for several hours. If I just use the example directly from the documentation then it immediately fails:

shell:>component path input
Got value null

I could say a lot more, but I don't want to confuse the issue. If this example doesn't work, then nothing works.

Hours later, I finally found that the problem only happens when trying to run from inside Intellij.
