Hi, I'm wasabipesto. This is the place where you can give me money, if you want.
I'm not a software engineer by education or trade. My background is actually in HVAC controls engineering, which is an underrated field in my opinion. I don't consider myself a skilled programmer by any means but I've never let that stop me in the past.
Occasionally I'll stumble upon an interesting problem and follow it down a rabbit hole, usually to the detriment of my sleep schedule. Out of those rabbit I holes I emerge with charts, rants, and/or mania. You can encourage these bad habits for as little as one dollar.
Some of my favorite things I've made include:
- Brier.fyi, a data-driven exploration of prediction market accuracy and calibration. Previously Calibration City. Both sites powered by Project Themis.
- Nice Numbers, a fool's errand to solve a silly math problem with high-performance computing, and my blog post about it.
- Some of my blog posts like The Old Schoolhouse (a digression into how you might approach upgrading HVAC in an old building) or A Better Spotify Wrapped (a genre map, artist diversity algorithms, and a popularity contest).
I open-source everything I write because I learned a lot from reading other people's code, and I want other people to be able to learn from mine. Also, other people can point out the flaws and help me fix them.
