GNOME edition #92

Description

It would be fantastic to work on, and release, the GNOME edition. This was already in the codebase but it never made it to Current, as other things took priority at the time.

But why? Silverblue exists!?

One of the things I, myself, personally enjoy about working on Sodalite is it is one of the very few independent Fedora distributions. While I have nothing against the Fedora Project, it would be nice for more to exist outside the collective as it allows for extra quality-of-life improvements (such as the inclusion of OpenH264 by default: sure, it sucks, but most of us need it).

So a GNOME variant of Sodalite... hm, intriguing!

Goals

  • Ability to dive between the Pantheon and GNOME editions with relative ease
    • This is, in fact, something that the codebase already supports properly, and has been tested
  • Familiar UX as Pantheon, such as:
    • Placement of window buttons (close left)
    • Gestures and keyboard shortcuts, where possible
    • Fonts
    • Dock visible on desktop (instead of only on the Activities screen)
  • Stock GNOME UI
    • Shipping custom themes and icons is riddled with all sorts of nonsense, and GNOME looks pretty fantastic these days
  • Inbox apps to be Flatpak versions where possible
  • Same wallpaper rotation as Pantheon edition of Sodalite
