On this function I'm running into an error:

TypeError: "msg.value" and "callvalue()" can only be used in payable public functions. Make the function "payable" or use an internal function to avoid this error.

Can someone tell me what gives?

You can make this function paybale.

        addressToAmountFunded[msg.sender] = msg.value;

You have to tell people calling this function that it is payable. Because you are using msg.value which is the amount of ether sent when calling this function.
