Git add . doesn't add all the files

Git add . doesn't add all the files. Even when I try to add the files individually e.g. git add it does nothing.

I just downloaded the lesson 7 project straight from the github and I think I've come to the conclusion that half the files are in a different root folder??

anyone know why that is and how to solve it? I don't want to move around files and potentially mess something up, been trying to get this to work for a couple days now

As you can see from the screenshot, only some of the files can be committed to github. the other files just can't?

Okay I've given up using the commands in the terminal. Downloaded everything and placed the project folder in myself and everything's in the same place!
