Using WSL is just a way to not get involved with messy stuff windows have at managing libraries, so you can do the following.:

  1. Use just windows and install everything on it, not using WSL.
  2. The problem with Cygwin is I'm not sure you'll have compatibility with VScode and you could run on crazy errors, so... dunno.
  3. Using a virtual box machine is 100% not recommended for me, you have a really limited space of storage and your computer resources are half or less.

Wi that said I have to recommendations for you.

  1. As I said, just install the libraries on windows and do not use WSL.
  2. Update your windows to W10 or W11 and use WSL.
