Problem with using Hardhat for deploying deploy.js

Hi @LordReya, when I tried to run deploy.js using hardhat, it threw an error saying
MODULE_NOT_FOUND and Cannot find module 'dotenv'
My deploy.js code looks something like this:

If we are using hardhat, do we need to add the private key and the http address in deploy.js?
Also, I couldn't quite understand when you said "You need to add it as a dependency if this error shows up."
What do I need to add and where?

The missing node module in this case is a missing dependency. If you didn't do it before, try yarn add --dev dotenv in your console. You don't need a http address or a private key. Hardhat is basically your local network. You can use yarn hardhat node in a diffrent terminal to run your local network and view your functions. By doing this you can easily run anything you want through the hardhat network, even without using your private key. What lesson are you currently at?

@LordReya thank you for your answer but after adding yarn add --dev dotenv, it is throwing another error saying wallet is not defined I am at lesson 5 (Time: 07:07:34). I tried to copy your code as well but it said, not able to find "./.encryptedKey.json". Maybe if I add this, the code will work. but where do I have to add it?
Are there any steps or tutorial provided later or in any other discussion for hardhat that I can try to deploy the contract? @PatrickAlphaC

@ashrth Ok I would honestly recommend you to go to the next lesson if you want to learn more about hardhat, since lesson 6 and 7 are all about hardhat. You can see that if you look at the chapters in the video description or in the code repository. You of course learn it. I wouldn't be discouraged with not getting ethers. It's ultra hard. @PatrickAlphaC did it because he wanted us to learn how it looks when we do everything raw (as I understood from the end of lesson 5).

Now to your problem, firstly, it's normal that it is throwing this error. Look specifically at this part of your code:

    provider
  ); ``` 

Check again what you did. The dotenv error is gone, as you can see. The wallet error is something you should be able to fix yourself.

Hi @abossofmyself I made the corrections, but after deploying it just have two lines of code as output saying "contract deployed to, then my private key" I just want to make sure if I am going the right way because in the tutorial Patrick got different output (I am aware of the fact that he used Ganache) and I cannot see what kind of output we get using hardhat. Also, thanks a lot.

@ashrth Yes In the tutorial he updates the favourite number after deploying the contract.
and By the way using ganache or hardhat are the same thing using hardhat is much more convenient.

@ashrth You just have to add .env in your .gitignore file. So, that it will not push it to github.
I added it just to let you understand, by an example.
