Can't clear my history

I've been trying to clear my terminal history, following along with the 32 hour course. On the section about encrypting private keys then clearing history for security purposes. However when I attempt to clear history by typing history -c I get the following message: history: bad option: -c Does anybody have any ideas how to fix this? My history still pops up when I type the history command so it's definitely not working.

@averbinnen You are definatly using zsh shell. For zsh shells the command is history -p

Correct! I am using zsh . The history -p worked for the current terminal but if I closed and reopened my terminal then the history including the password I used to encrypt the private key was still visible. How would I clear that history permanently using zsh? Thank you very much for the help
