EFI boot order entry missing - bare metal

I pxe boot my Talos hosts (1.10.3) in uefi mode. After applying the configuration and rebooting the efi boot entry is missing. bootctl status looks fine. I mounted the boot partition from a live OS and installed the bootloader with bootctl install, which finally added the boot entry.

does anyone have the same issue?

Your UEFI firmware should be able to automatically detect the EFI partition and boot from it.

Do you happen to have older hardware? We are curious to understand whether we need to do a fix there.

I am running on 2017 hardware with a bios version released in 2024. The system is uefi 2.5 compatible and generally capable of booting uefi with and without CSM. It's a Fujitsu Esprimo Q556/2. I tried several linux distributions and the vast majority were not bootable right after installation, with the exception of Ubuntu and Proxmox.
After the Talos installation finished i check efibootmgr if a boot entry has been created. Unfortunately there was none. Adding one with either efibootmgr or bootctl does work and the system becomes selectable for boot.
