@majeau-bettez and his students have been thinking about and have written a prototype library (not yet open, I think) for ensuring properties are balanced across unit process inventories. He has also been thinking about how to integrate specific elements of MFA together with LCA (see attached presentations). He separates properties into three groups:
Components (a good is composed of multiple component goods)
Transformable properties (things which can change, e.g. sugar can be turned into H2O and CO2, price can change over time)
Conserved (or balanceable) properties (things which can't change, such as mass of elements in a non-fission/fusion process)
I think this could be a very good framework for us to build on - we could also take some definitions from BONSAI, which has some similar thoughts.
