Know Your Sevak

The Indian government faces the problem of transparency today. People often don't know the names of their public representatives such as their local government councilor, MLA, MP. Neither is information available about the top civil servants such as the District Magistrate, CMO, etc.

Know Your Sevak is a platform where a person can enter their geographical coordinates via a map-based interface and they can see the list of all of the elected representatives for that particular area. The contact information (social media accounts) of these representatives is often available in the public domain but not easily accessible. Know Your Sevak will contain links to all the public social media profiles of a representative. The MVP can be restricted to only providing information about the top-level government representatives (MLA and MP).

Steps for the MVP:

1. Store information about the geographical bounds of all the electoral constituencies. The Election Commission of India (ECI) changes the demarcations of constituencies every few years. That information is in the public domain.
2. The ECI website displays the results of all the elections that it conducts. This information should be mapped to the constituencies.
3. Develop the frontend which allows users to search for their representative based on their location.

After the MVP the scope of the project can be expanded to:

1. Display the basic information about all the candidates for an upcoming election.
2. Display the contact information for the top-level government servants such as the District Magistrate, the Superintendent of Police.

Note: This will require a team of volunteers to collect, verify, and update this data.
