The current documentation indicates that checkpoints are created at the completion of a step, which suggests that only the steps of the wrapped workflow are stored, not the internal ones of nested workflows. If you are looking for a feature that allows storing progress at a more granular level within nested workflows, it seems that this capability is not currently available.
