Sorry you are facing issues. Developing for hardware without the hardware is very difficult and time consuming, so sending me a card would definitely help. I am based in Sweden tho so depending on where you are it might be expensive for you. |

That is very generous of you, the N100 option with a card installed sure sounds great! Then i wouldnt have to rip out my server from the rack. Do you have Discord or anything like that where we could talk more? On another note, do you have any specific reasons for switching from Frigate? I often get questions on how they compare but i have never used Frigate so i dont really know. |

Jasper,
Thanks for the email. I use Discord all the time but I don’t have my own channel - glad to set one up if that would be helpful. Also glad to operate a Discord channel for Viseron if that would be helpful.
Here’s a link to a picture of the T9Plus, or you can search on T9Plus N100. I disconnected the LED light bar at the bottom but you can re-connect it if you want.

This is by far the fastest N100 because it has a 512G SSD on m.2 with x4. Most of the other N100’s have x2 for the ssd. You can pull off the top, it snaps back on. Underneath you will see the 2 m.2 slots, one is x4 for SSD and the other is a wifi m.2 which is where the Coral dual-tpu is located. It’s not fanless but it is silent.
Power usage is very low, less than 2 amps at 12v. The included power supply is 2.5 amps - get a little bit warm but never hot.
Frigate doesn’t seem to have a lot of activity on the Github so I would like to move to Viseron. Frigate isn’t bad but it’s more work to get it running as compared to Viseron. You have a very clean config, super simple. All I need is two text files: one docker command and one config.yaml.
Let me know the best way to ship and where to send the box. I will get it out and provide a tracking number.
Thanks,
Charles McCane

I could then also make sure that the hardware acceleration for FFmpeg works correctly for the N100.

I can add you directly if you give me your Discord username, i would like to avoid posting my adress here 😄
A Viseron Discord server sounds great, but lets settle this first, i feel like its a bit too much to ask of you!
Again, thank you very much for this. If there is anything you feel i should focus my attention on after i get the TPU working, let me know and ill see what i can do.

Jasper,
I sent a friend request on Discord. I need to write this out so bear with me from using email. I will repost it into Discord later if appropriate.
Here’s the actual use case that I am working on. I work with another open source project called Meshtastic. It seems to be quite popular over in the EU as well as US.
Meshtastic is an extremely cool way to communicate long distances without a cell phone or any other means. It is encrypted communication via a spread spectrum mesh network. It provides text messaging over distances exceeding 10km and you can place Meshtastic nodes along a path to forward messages much farther than 10km.
The problem with Meshtastic is that it only provides limited bandwidth up to 256kb per second. Meshtastic nodes are very easy to connect to all sorts of sensors such as temperature, humidity, air quality, motion, etc. which do not require a lot of bandwidth.
Meshtastic nodes are relatively cheap and do not require anything but the node. Nodes cost less than $50. They are basically ESP32 dev boards running Meshtastic firmware.
So my use case is to setup nodes with something like Viseron which can do object recognition and, hopefully, output simple text to indicate that an object was detected and the textual name of the object. Each configured node would include both an N100 mini-pc and the ESP32 dev board.
The completed configuration would have a USB to RS-232 adapter plugged into the N100 mini-pc. The RS-232 side of that connects to 3 pins on the ESP32 board.
Please let me know if you have any interest in pursuing this, if so I will include a Heltec v3 ESP32 board along with the N100 mini-pc.
This is a way to use a very cheap form of communication for video surveillance across potentially many nodes. I know it would take some iteration to get it to work. I am glad to provide dev/test of any such solution.
Thanks,
Charles McCane CCIE#5163

I have tried changing the tpu config in the docker command with --device /dev/apex_0 but that didn't work. With 6 cameras, I was thinking that the USB tpu would be insufficient. Glad to send the developer a free, sealed, Google Coral dual-tpu m.2 card if that would help.
