The RP2040pc supports usb keyboards and has hdmi so would be interesting to see this cute editor running on it

That does look like a huge effort. The board runs PC emulators like an AppleII. The editor needs Python 3. I do not know if Python 3 is available with the AppleII OS. I doubt it.
Otherwise the RP2040 could run MicroPython instead of e.g. the Apple emulator. Then, a HDMI driver is required for MicroPython which emulates a VT100 terminal. USB support for the keyboard may be available, since MicroPython supports USB devices. That would be a benefit on it's own.

I was thinking to run micropython on the board, sorry I should have been clearer. It could make a nice little standalone micropython dev system. You’re right about the drivers for display needing with. Hopefully the usb keyboard is easier ….
