Adding rebar

Hi,
Is it possible to add rebar to any arbitrary section? For example if I have a zed reinforced concrete section could I use and existing shape from the steel library to define the geometry and then add rebar?

There are some helper functions in the concrete library that assist in adding reinforcement:

• add_bar
• add_bars

Basically you must be careful to not double up geometry on top of geometry as this can cause errors. The above functions handle this for you.

So the 'add'_bar and 'add_bars' functions will substract the underlying geometry?
Also if I am adding geometries with the '+' symbol

does this function subtract the underlying geometry as well?

Yes, this is explained in the documentation here. Using the + operator will place geometry on top of existing geometry.

When the geometry is meshed this creates an ambiguous case (which material should be applied?) Further some operations only use the geometry objects (e.g. plastic analysis & concreteproperties) so in these cases the area will be counted twice.

I don't understand why sometimes I get this warning:

It seems to go away when changing the mesh size but then it comes back arbitrarily. It pops up even with the simle geometries. Do you know why this is?

for some peculiar reason it hasn't happened again..so I guess it's all good,
regardless of that though I'd like to send u in a personal email my algorithm to verify

You can pass the keyword argument filename=xxx to the plotting method, where xxx is your desired filename+extension. This is described in the docs here. Most plotting methods have keyword arguments passed to plotting_context(), e.g. plot_centroids.

Interaction diagrams can be created with concreteproperties - this is not a feature of sectionproperties. Note that concreteproperties is geared towards RC, PT and RC-composite sections however can be generalised.
