Parallel structure

Tutorial formula:

  1. Give a heads up: "Now we'll add gravity to our game."
  2. Give the code.
  3. Explain the code: "Here, we set the gravity acceleration to 1800 pixels per second. The higher the number you assign to gravity, the harder it is for your sprite to jump high."

Tips for titles

  • Avoid using "tutorial" in a title:
    x Tutorial for gravity game objects with Kaboom
    o How to add gravity to game objects in Kaboom
  • Keep titles clear, active, simple

Tips for self-editing

  • Read aloud
  • Review gerunds - this is not a hard-and-fast rule, but you can often rewrite gerunds in the infinitive:
    x "We would then be adding the shape, outline, and position feature."
    o "Next we'll add the shape, outline, and position features."
