Obstacle with Wi-Fi passphase

Having difficulty connecting to a WiFi network.

Version rAudio 20250309
Kernel 6.12.17-2-rpi aarch64
Hardware Raspberry Pi 3B+ Rev 1.4
SoC BCM2837B0 • 904 MiB
CPU 4 x Cortex-A53 @ 1.40 GHz

Enabled System|Wi-Fi

Entered a SSID & '8 letter' password into Networks|Wi-Fi, connection failed.

When I checked the settings using 'edit', only a 6 letter passphase showed.

Tried two different WiFi networks using rAudio-64bit-20250627.img.xz, would not connect.

Attempts to edit and confirm the passcodes were also unsuccessful.

Is help available for this problem ?

This may be the same issue I am having with #1965. Have you tried creating a file called 'wifi' (with no extension) in the /boot folder ? This file should contain:

Interface=wlan0
Connection=wireless
IP=dhcp
ESSID="your wifiname"                # Note - quotes surrounding wifiname
Key=yourwifinamepassword        # Note - NO quotes here
Security=wpa

I have used this method for years without fail until this latest release.

NB: my password with the 'wifi' file above is currently 12 chars.

In the /BOOT folder there is a file called wifi0

Replace NAME and PASSWORD

Save this file as 'wifi'

Interface=wlan0
Connection=wireless
IP=dhcp
Security=wpa
ESSID="NAME"
Key="PASSWORD"

Followed these instructions keeping the quotes around the Key, "Connecting Failed". When I tried to remove the quotes around the key for a second try, discovered the file was missing/removed. Recreated the file with quotes to double check, again "Connecting Failed" and missing. Tried a 3rd time without key quotes without success.

Delete the wifi0-File and create a textfile called wifi without any extension with a linux compatible Editor . Do not use the Windows Editor . Use f.e. Notepad++ . The file should look like this :
Interface=wlan0
Connection=wireless
ESSID="Your SSID"
IP=static
Security=wpa
Key="your wifi password"
Address=172.18.1.7/24
Gateway=172.18.1.1

ESSID and password with quotes . Change Adress to a free one in your Network and change Gateway to your Router-Adress . As I wrote before , try to disable WPA3 in your Router and set it to Wpa2 only .
Wpa3/Wpa2 will not work with older Rpi Firmware

Its normal for the 'wifi' file to be deleted after first use the systme then 'remembers its settings, simply replace it before you reboot if you need to make changes The wifi0 file is simply a template and whilst @hjfisch mentions deleting it, I simply leave it in place. I seem to get better results (hah!) without quotes round the password and as per my example I use DHCP but both examples should work.

Currently using WPA2-PSK[AES] security.
WPA2-PSK[AES]+WPA-PSK[TKIP} is also available.
Have had other Raspi devices connected without problem.

WPA2-PSK[AES] is working for me . Wpa3/Wpa2 only for a few seconds .

Deleted the /BOOT/wifi0 file.
Created /BOOT/wifi using xed. [Linux Mint]

Restarted raudio, wired ethernet connected to router.

Than it could only be a problem with rAudio1 not working wifi with RPI's before RPI4 , because my two RPI4 are working without any problem with WiFi

Would love to find a working copy of RuneAudio for a Raspi3B+, never had a problem until this "upgrade" to rAudio.

The download fails to do anything after booting.

Set-up a WiFi connection without any problems after being wired to rAudio since 2025 May 8th.

I ended using a static assignment, despite MAC address reservation, with RuneAudio. It is working fine.

RuneAudio is very, very obsolete.

It is also very stable! An "updated" beta image is still available, but unfortunately, rern's enhancements are not.

I have a friend who still uses it because it does what he needs it to do.

RuneAudio does everything I need. I'm just playing lists to a local ampllfier and occasional HTTPd streaming. The steaming is the only reason for the WiFi requirement. There was little reason for me to fall into the rAudio"upgrade".
