HFS 3 Disconnecting

What would cause HFS 3 to disconnect? HFS 2 will run until you disconnect it, while 3 will disconnect itself after a few hours.

can you explain what disconnection are you talking about? include screenshots possibly

Maybe it has something to do with running beta versions or the hide console plugin. I'm running 0.56.0 now to see if it happens again. Usually after some time has passed I get this Connection error message.

I can not confirm that yet, as I will try that the next time it does it. I do believe I may have tried before and it acts as if the application was closed, but let me make sure. I would have to let it sit for a bit.

ok, but can you instead confirm that when you see that error, you tried to refresh the browser (reload the same page) and it didn't work?

Yes I can confirm that if I reload the page it does not reconnect, the page is dead until I re-run the program.

I also found this problem these two days. I can't open the web page even after reloading it, the HFS console still running (not no response).
I need to re-open the HFS program.

ok, then we don't need the other confirmation: your HFS stops responding at any request.
Nobody else has reported a problem like that, so it is likely that there is something special with your case, and it may even not be a problem of HFS itself.
First thing I would check is if HFS process is still running. Do you know how to do that?

ok. Consider that HFS never quits automatically.
It can do it if you click update, and then it needs to restart, but not otherwise.
If you didn't click "update", then HFS crashed (and we should have something in the debug.log) or was killed by some other software.

Another thing to check in your configuration folder you see a "debug.log" file.
If yes, open it with a text editor, and see if any line reports a time compatible with the time of your problem.

That error and port busy is the only thing that has happened since the last connection error message.

Yea, I was just about to say it was the hide console that gave the busy error. that I believe was because I was on the new beta. But the connection error happened before that.

1.2 has a mechanism that automatically quits HFS if it detects that you accidentally started it twice, because the console is hidden and you may think it's not running.
Maybe something is wrong with that, and it quits at the wrong time.
First thing is to understand if it's the plugin or not.

Your case may be different than the original poster's, as he said that the process appeared to be gone, while in your case it is still running. I have no suggestsions at the moment, so i'll ask some questions.

1. Did you have this problem before? when did it start, roughly?
2. can you provide your config? Admin-panel > Options > Config file > Copy without passwords
   You can paste here or send to my email a@rejetto.com
3. are you using HFS only in a local network or over the internet?
4. enter the "logs" folder, you'll see both access.log and access-error.log. Look at (and if possibly report here) the last lines before HFS stopped responding.

@SimonChiu930 I studied the files you've sent and i cannot think of anything causing it. Maybe it's something else on your system, since other users didn't report the same behavior, like some "security" software that decides to block hfs, i don't know.
The only things that come to my mind now are

1. run HFS on a different machine, if you can, and see if you have the same problem (and let me know)
2. when it is blocked, try this powershell command to see if HFS has still the connection open
   Get-Process -Id (Get-NetTCPConnection -LocalPort 80 -State Listen).OwningProcess

From the beginning till now, Windows Defender has also set up to exclude this folder, so I don't know why this happened.

that option does the same as the "check for updates" button at its side.
if you have no problem, you can try clicking "check for updates" and see what happens.

we can see in your screenshot that HFS didn't lose the connection port (80), and also is not hanging (no 100% CPU).
i guess that you can even enter some commands in the black console (like "help").
maybe something in the system is preventing HFS to receive the requests.
i understand that you tried also on another computer, where it has not stopped.

I'm running current beta version, not running the console hide. I'm still having the same problem. My HFS is on the C drive, I still haven't figured out what's causing it, as it is not logging it on debug log.

You should have got a warning. Google about it. Never use it on the internet unless you trust your visitors to not use the security flaw.

I see, good thing I'm not using it for something like that to happen. However, I will be moving everything over to HFS 3 soon, so I can use more feature. I have a temporary fix for the app closing for now. Thanks for the help.

i have another experiment for you: stop using hfs.exe, and instead 1. install nodejs 2. at command line enter npx hfs@beta

if you have existing configuration and dont' want to lose it, you can run npx hfs@beta --cwd C:\your\folder\with\HFS

Yes, I ran the npx..., The only thing I notice is that the console still closed. Normally when you shutdown the server the console will close, but when you shutdown the server using npx..., the console is suppose to stay open. In this case when it shut itself down the console was closed too. I made it.

I finally identified the cause of the console closing—it only happened when multiple conditions occurred simultaneously. Fortunately, the fix was simple: I just needed to ensure that hfs.exe was running as administrator.

i tried to say it before: i don't think your problem is the same. It just have similarities.

Mixed-level conflicts, my auto scripts running while my screen is asleep triggered it. Windows isolates processes based on privilege elevation (administrator vs. non-admin).
