it's super early days, but maybe eventually a replacement for the cline mcp-marketplace.

Thanks for sharing that! Definitely what the community needs right now. I feel we will migrate to this registry eventually.

specifically this:

Massive scale & reliability (millions of consumers): this metaregistry should not be consumed by MCP client end-users. MCP client hosts should maintain asynchronous systems that integrate with the metaregistry. This means the maximum number of direct consumers of this metaregistry is roughly equal to "number of MCP client apps", rather than "number of MCP client app users".

I haven't read the whole thing. But that makes sense. We can have our own database and a cron job to keep it in sync. If it feels too risky to host a service publicly without any tokens we can transform it to a json file and keep it in github and fetch it.

Yeah, way back I dabbled with the idea of using the glama endpoint (used to be just a .json endpoint) to get the servers and wrote a cron job that uses LLM to extract structured installation instructions. Didn't went through with it for some reason. Mainly due to security concerns.

Currently the Glama API certainly has many more MCP servers than the cline mcp marketplace. I don't feel confident migrating to it just for the quantity of servers. Also, in the api it would help if we can also get the installation instructions like npm or uvx how the mcp registry is providing so that we can allow users to just press "l" and the server will be installed.
