readLAS two input files, resulting extent is for first file only

When I read in two las files, the extent returned is just for the first file. How can I get the extent to include both files.

In example below extent returned is for file1 only

readLAS("C:\\Users\\Owner\\Documents\\lidar\\file1.las","C:\\Users\\Owner\\Documents\\lidar\\file2.las")

Because you read only the first file. The second one is passed to the select argument

How can I read in both files and have them treated as one file from that point forward.
