how to log to /dev/log?

I don't really get how you can log to a conventional /dev/log syslog

You can log to syslog if you have a TCP socket for it (see the docs). I do not believe we have a way to log to syslog via /dev/log; this would be a reasonable enhancement though, given that Java has supported filesystem sockets for some time now.

Yes would be very nice! I don't accept from random container ip's data, I want this to go through the host. Syslog is also on different network so only way for me is when I put /dev/log in the container.

On further research it seems that Java won't talk to filesystem (aka UNIX domain) sockets if they're datagram (SOCK_DGRAM) sockets. So, this would have to wait until either the JDK supports it, or until we can use an alternative socket provider (such as Netty or a custom one written just for this task using the FFM API) to do this. It's unfortunate.
