What happened?

Reading outputs from s3 terraform backend state file results in the following error

error: Preview failed: Read is not implemented

We experience the same issue with the azurerm backend. It used to work before and we did not change any of our code and use the same pulumi-terraform version as before. So assume it's something that changed in pulumi itself.

Example

• Pulumi version: v3.171.0
• pulumi-terraform version: 5.13.4 (but the issue seem to happen with older version like 5.12.x as well)

We're having the exact same error in a WSL environment when reading terraform state from an AWS S3 bucket (the same setup works on linux and macos).
There is nothing in the logs (just something like code: Unimplemented, desc: Read is not implemented)

I have the same issue. Using WSL, trying Pulumi for the first time.

• Pulumi version v3.182.0
• Terraform version v1.12.2
• pulumi-terraform 5.13.4, tried also 5.12.0

After this, I confirmed that it was working normally.

it worked for me by installing version 5.5.1 and removing newer version

pulumi plugin rm resource terraform 5.13.4
pulumi plugin install resource terraform 5.5.1
