.gitignore symbolic link

After cloning this repo, when running a `git status` command, a warning message pops up that states "unable to access avx2/.gitignore: too many levels of symbolic links" (using git v2.39.3). 
As stated here: https://git-scm.com/docs/gitignore/2.32.0#:~:text=Git%20does%20not%20follow%20symbolic,tree%20versus%20from%20the%20filesystem. 
gitignore files must not be symbolic links.
