Changing tabs with multiple documents open is confusing #8707

I couldn't find any open issue here or in the positron issues. Not sure if I'm opening this in the right place, but didn't want to make an irrelevant issue. I haven't looked too terribly hard, but is there any place that talks about how to change between tabs easily? I constantly have trouble switching between files, open data explorer tabs, and other viewers. Take this example workspace on my laptop, where I have the file pane open, the plots/variables one open, and have multiple documents open. 
I made the titles extra long to demonstrate. Now I would think that those arrows directly above by the search bar are for toggling left and right between my different open documents. That doesn't seem to be the case. Instead it seems to record the order that documents were opened or worked in? I have been confused by this because often I don't remember the order of documents I opened, so I figured the arrows would be for navigation of the open files I have. Another point is that you can get into a situation where with multiple open files, there is no way to open files to the very left or right. Notice in my screenshot above that a file is just on the edge. So I have to carefully select to avoid accidently closing this file. What you also don't see because I cant navigate to it is there are open .qmd and .R files on both sides of this that I can't access unless I close these Sorry for the wordiness. I've LOVED Positron for everything else, but this has been a point I've struggled with for a while. Thanks for the great work! |

I realize I'm maybe just not as used to the search bar and all the things it can do. If I do I still think the arrows can be confusing, but maybe thats just me. I also wonder if there can be a way that when the file on the edges closest to the side bars is selected, if Positron can make a little room to show any files/objects on the side of it. Or if there could be some arrow or selector thing that shows up on the edges of the main panel to help with toggling between files/data objects/etc. The selector is great, but sometimes I just want to go to a file right next to the one I'm in because I know that that file is there haha. Thanks! |

Keyboard shortcuts are your friend here (as you already see with As far as navigating among other parts of the UI, this page on keyboard shortcuts might be useful. You can also enable RStudio keybindings if you are familiar with them. |

Oh thats really nice! I hadn't looked through those. The ⌘⌥← and ⌘⌥→ for me on a Mac was exactly what I was missing! I hadn't used or seen those before but will definatly be adding to my ones to remember. Thanks! |

Another feature you might enjoy is turning on "Open Editors" in the EXPLORER view. When I have more than a couple of documents open, I think that is mostly how I navigate from one to the other.

Right, I forgot about the "Open Editors". That is really nice to see what is actually open. I try to avoid using my mouse too much if I can, so I concentrate on keyboard shortcuts, but it's also nice to see "what" is open. |
