Incompatibility with senderParticipantId in Phase4PeppolSender after peppol-commons v10.4.0

After upgrading to peppol-commons v10.4.0 (released 2025-05-09), I'm encountering an issue preventing me from sending a Peppol report.

Relevant change in v10.4.0:
Made Peppol Participant Identifier Value checks more strict, so that they must start with 4 digits and a colon (as in 0000:id)

Previously, I was using a value like PBEXXX as the senderParticipantId when building the Phase4PeppolSender. This now fails due to the updated validation logic that enforces the 0000: prefix format.

Am I using senderParticipantId incorrectly in the builder? If so, could you clarify the intended usage pattern post-v10.4.0? Should I just drop senderParticipantID in case I am sending peppol reports?

Hi @woutray , you are indeed using the senderParticipantID invalid. Only the report XML element ReporterID contains the SeatID. Participant IDs must always follow the scheme 0000:xxxxx

You're absolutely right — I was misusing senderParticipantID by passing a SeatID like PBEXXX, which doesn't conform to the expected 0000:xxxxx format.

In hindsight, perhaps I should've opened this discussion under the Phase4 project, since my issue arises when sending a message via the PeppolUserMessageBuilder, which requires a non-null senderParticipantID. Now that my historical Participant Identifier was based on a SeatID, I'm unsure what I should pass there.

Would you recommend omitting senderParticipantID entirely when sending Peppol reports?

It was moved :)
The sender Participant ID is mandatory. Use e.g. the VAT number of you as a Service Provider for identification. I don't recall in what country you are based in

We are based in Belgium, using the VAT number seems like a good solution. Thanks for your advice!

In Belgium, the CBE number (0208) is the preferred number, if I am not mistaken
