JavaToCSharp 3.x Roadmap

I'm happy to preview the upcoming 3.0 release of JavaToCSharp, the most significant release since this project started over 10 years ago! 🎉 Many thanks to the community for the interest in this project, reporting bugs and feature requests, submitting PRs, and helping to turn this project from a hacky, utilitarian prototype into something that continues to get more mature and useful each year.

The major themes of the 3.0 release include:

• (Finally!) Cross-platform support for running on macOS and Linux, including the GUI app with a new Avalonia-based UI!
• We now target the latest (at the time of this writing) release of JavaParser, getting over a significant hurdle to adopt the 3.x final APIs, and with that we get much better and updated Java language support
• New Java language features through Java 11 LTS, including default and private interface methods, try-with-resources, and type inference
• A new unit test runner that not only confirms the source translates to C#, but that in many cases the generated C# compiles, runs, and has the correct expected output. Not all tests are able to use this yet due to some (currently) necessary manual clean-up post-translation, but we now have a framework to allow for contributors to this project to include fully running Java apps and assert that the generated C# runs correctly, too.
• Dependency upgrades including .NET 6 support, latest IKVM, etc.

After the 3.0 release, I expect we'll make progress on a few fronts in the 3.x roadmap:

• Additional Java features up through (hopefully) Java 21 and later
• .NET 8 support
• A modular ability to customize the conversion, including going beyond semantic conversion. Possibilities include more type mappings, advanced source code rewriting, string interpolation, etc.

You can play with most of the 3.0 bits by pulling latest on master and building locally. I'll begin preparing prerelease builds once this gets a little closer. Enjoy, and please file issues for any bugs you find!
