What is the proper way of handling navigation button presses?

Hi,
In my app I have multiple pages with menus in which I would like to be able to use hardware buttons to navigate through.

What is the proper way of implementing an UI that works that way? Is there a way to make it work the same way native apps work?(up/down change selected item, currently selected item has blue borders, select selects it)
