solution if you're unable to switch to workspace 6 (FR keymap, may be others)

I was unable to switch to workspace 6 using <Super>+6 (debian 12, regolith 4.4.3, i3 4.22).

All other workspaces are find with this combo, and I can event switch to 16 (<Ctrl>+<Super>+6).
However, 6 never works.
I tried several FR keyboard variants, to no avail.
It doesn't matter if I try on internal/external keyboard.

The config regarding ws6 and associated keybindings is exactly the same as the other ones:

set_from_resource $ws6  wm.workspace.06.name "6"
set_from_resource $ws6_key  wm.workspace.06.key 6
...
bindsym $mod+$ws6_key workspace number $ws6

When I substituted the bindsym with:

bindsym $mod+b workspace number $ws6

it worked.

The issue is that, on FR keyboards, the direct keycode for the unmodified 6 key is "minus", and <Super>+minus was already allocated in /usr/share/regolith/i3/config.d/35_gaps to:

bindsym $mod+$wm.binding.dec_gaps gaps inner current minus 6

So copying this file to personal config, commenting the offending lines & removing the associated package solved this for me:

cp /usr/share/regolith/i3/config.d/35_gaps ~/.config.d/regolith/i3/config.d/
sudo apt remove regolith-i3-gaps
# comment those lines in ~/.config.d/regolith/i3/config.d/35_gaps
# bindsym $mod+$wm.binding.dec_gaps gaps inner current minus 6
# bindsym $mod+$wm.binding.inc_gaps gaps inner current plus 6
# and restart regolith with <Super>+<Shift>+r
