Java CompletableFuture in template

Is it possible to handle a Java CompletableFuture asynchronously in a Play template? Something like

@defining(context.dataUtils.classFacetSearch(context)) { classFacetSearch =>
	@classFacetSearch.thenAccept(searchResult => {
		...
	}
}

(this syntax does not work), or do I have to join the future:

@defining(context.dataUtils.classFacetSearch(context).join) { classFacetSearch =>
	...
}

I would handle CompletableFutures in an asynchronous manner outside the templates, so by the time the template renders, there's no CompletableFuture. Calling join inside the template works, but it's a blocking wait, which defeats the purpose of using CompletableFuture.
