People expected to be able to use Android Auto when installing from outside of Google Play, however by default Android Auto does not allow apps installed from Unknown sources.
However this can be overriden through Android Auto's developer options for Reference
Doing this with Organic Maps does not seem to work, is this because the build outside of Google Play intentionally removes the Android functionality?
Could this be fixed and the documentation adapted accordingly?
