Notes:

Dan (@djfnd) will be travelling this week at the Open Office time, and so won't be available to be on the call.

I suggest that we do this Open Office async unless anyone else wants to drive the session.

If we do the session remotely then this places greater importance on the setup and discussion in this thread. So, setting it up early so that everyone can input where they want to.

I have implemented the SQL database. I have written about the tradeoff here. I ask for everyone's input if the tradeoff is worth it.

Using the new database I have created a prototype for Lens. All PRs incoming soon. I now need to test, find and fix bugs. Implement smaller things such as getting the lens handle for each owner. We currently have the wallet address of the owner.

The schema that I am using in Lens is an updated one. Hopefully, there shouldn't be any more changes to the schema. I still need to update the existing strategies according to this new schema and there maybe some friction and a minor change maybe required to smooth it out.

I need to create a PR for the schema and also explain my thought process. Meanwhile, people can refer to the diagram in this discussion to get a rough idea of the schema.

@djfnd re: ENS Grant Rounds - the April Small Grants round is already underway; the next best time to submit would be the Growth Grants round. The project would need to demonstrate how it benefits the entire Web3 ecosystem, not just ENS.

Sorry for the delay. Had a lot of catching up to do post NYC...

Below are some wide-ranging thoughts I wrote up (mostly) on the plane ride back from NYC. I attended a bunch of dev and music community events and had a great time, but did not attend the main conference. Was definitely feeling inspired, so some of the notes are not going to be immediately practical but may provide directional insights if they resonate with others.

• Our communities are connected.
  • The many communities in the music NFT are connected. Highly connected communities form clusters with few connections between clusters.
  • As neume integrates more data about wallets, identities, and related contracts, it will be possible for data consumers to expose these connections in new and interesting ways.
  • What unique applications does this enable and who might be willing to fund this work?
  • Neume’s data could be used to identify clusters and the wallets/contracts which connect them.
  • This has applications for marketing and discovery.
• IRL > URL
  • Digital communication alone cannot provide the shared context that we established when meeting someone in person.
  • As a team we would benefit from any in-person meeting that is possible.
  • For partnerships, we would do well to meet people working on partner projects in-person e.g. at community events.
  • Can Neume help to bridge URL <-> IRL experiences in a useful way? Is this useful/valuable?
  • That Neume could be used to identify connections between individuals and communities suggests that it could help to bring these groups together IRL and URL.
• Neume does not have great name recognition.
  • People did NOT seem to know what I was saying when I said “Neume Network”. Had to explain it or reference individuals involved with the project to establish context for conversations about Neume.
  • We should be publicly talking about Neume more.
  • We could sponsor a hackathon by offering a $500 prize.
  • We can speak on twitter spaces, podcasts, etc.
  • We can make our own App on Neume and promote the connection, preferably with a name that is easy to recognize when spoken.
  • HiFi could help here by highlighting the connection between Neume and MusicOS, but this seems unlikely, no?
• There is a need for a more flexible indexer e.g. Neume.
  • Current open source options (e.g. spindexer and possibly others) offer an absurd trade-off:
    • use the instance we run OR run your own and start from scratch with an empty database.
    • Users may want to run their own instance for many reasons. E.g. to collocate with other networked services, to use their own domain, or to run modified code.
    • Bootstraping a new instance may be expensive and resource intensive.
    • Neume can fix this by implementing flexible sync functionality.
  • Existing indexers produce a single monolithic data set.
    • This makes it difficult for the indexer to optimally serve all use cases.
    • Each project using Neume may want to add their own data set and rely on data provided by other instances.
    • Neume can fix this by supporting any number of composeable data sets produced by various instances.
  • Was talking to tranqui about this. Sounds like they considered forking spindexer but would prefer not to bootstrap the database or run infra.
• ENS grants process and scope.
  • I talked to slobo.eth at the ENS happy hour.
  • Next step for a small grant would be to create a prototype app demonstrating the functionality and sign-up to present it in their weekly call. Claims to have no imagination. Show don’t tell.
  • Says that building on new features like NameWrapper would be a big plus because they want to encourage adoption.
  • Projects that would expand the ENS user base are also encouraged
