Mpf-mc videos with alpha channels (transparency)

I'd like to be able to use videos with alpha channels to create animated overlays. However, I'm starting to think the MC does not support transparency in videos. I originally had tried a webm file type but it will not bring up the video. I've also tried converting to mov file types with proper encoding that supports alpha channels, but mpf-mc just renders the transparency as black background. Is there a specific format that mpf-mc supports for alpha channels? Is there a trick to it, or is it just not supported? I know alpha channels are supported with png/gif, it seems like maybe a codec could be added to support alpha in videos as well? I'm no expert though...
