Performance Improvements

 

Elementor version 3.28 introduces a series of performance enhancements designed to speed up your site and improve its efficiency. These updates focus on optimizing how resources are loaded and managed, ensuring that your site operates at peak performance, while minimizing load times.

• Google Fonts Local Loading: This new feature that was introduced in version 3.27 replaces external Google Fonts CDN requests with self-hosted font files, enhancing overall site speed and helping you comply with data protection regulations. Google Fonts Local Loading is now activated by default for all sites, enhancing performance and privacy for all users.
• Form Fields API Enhancements: New methods have been added to improve resource loading.
• Optimization of Text Editor Widget Styles: Styles related to the "Drop Cap" functionality are now conditionally loaded to reduce unnecessary CSS.
• Data Bindings Expansion to HTML Attributes: Starting with the Accordion and Tabs widgets, this feature improves the Nested Elements performance inside the Editor, focusing on the CSS ID control and not reloading the widget on every change.

 

Elementor Cache Control

 

As part of our commitment to improve the user experience and interface clarity, Elementor 3.28 beta introduces important updates to cache management tools.

Renaming the "Regenerate CSS & Data" Button

The "Regenerate CSS & Data" button (found under Elementor -> Tools -> General) has been renamed to "Clear Cache". While this update primarily involves a terminology update, it increases transparency about what this function does - clearing your site's cache, including CSS files, data from deleted post assets, element caching data, and more.

New “Clear Files & Data” Button in the WordPress Admin Bar

To further enhance accessibility and streamline workflow, a new “Clear Files & Data” button has also been added to the WordPress admin bar under “Edit with Elementor”. This addition allows you to quickly clear their site’s cache directly from any page with a single click and without the need to navigate to the Elementor tools settings.

These changes are designed to make the process of clearing cached data more transparent and accessible, and reflect our commitment to making the Elementor interface straightforward, intuitive, and to minimize any potential confusion.

 

Widget Control Updates

 

This version also includes several updates to widget controls that enhance the flexibility and functionality of Elementor’s widgets. These changes allow for more precise design adjustments and provide you with additional customization options to align with your design needs.

• Text Editor: Introduction of link color controls for enhanced text styling.
• Heading: Now applies hover color on focus to improve accessibility and user interaction.
• Button: Added a Box Shadow control for Button Hover, allowing you to override the hover box shadow set in the Site Settings Button area.
• Call to Action, Animated Headline & Testimonial Carousel: Added capabilities for implementing text shadows.

 

Additional Updates

As part of Elementor 3.28. We’re introducing new features to make your websites more inclusive for all users:

• Deprecation of Landing Page Feature: This feature will now be hidden for new sites and for those of you who have never utilized the Landing Page custom post type. For those of you who have previously created Landing Pages, the feature will remain visible with no changes, ensuring continued support also after updating to version 3.28.
• WordPress Compatibility: The minimum required WordPress version has been updated to 6.5, aligning with the latest WordPress enhancements and security features.
• Video widget: Updated to remove the unsupported "modest branding" control for YouTube.

How to Install the Beta Version

If you still haven't enabled beta testing in Elementor, please follow these steps:

1. Go to Elementor > Tools > Versions
2. Enable the beta tester feature
3. Go to Dashboard > Updates and update to the latest beta version.
4. This will get you set up to test the new Elementor 3.28 Beta.

can you please uninstall the Elementor Developer Edition plugin, and enable the Beta testing by following the two articles below?

Once you do that, please let me know if you are still experiencing this issue.

The plugin you are using is not meant to be used for beta testing, the Elementor Developer Edition plugin is meant for developers to test their addons with alpha versions of Elementor, which may be unstable. For Beta testing, we recommend following the second article above.

Initially I couldn't access the Dashboard, so I simply deleted the Plugin manually.

I already was a beta tester but saved the setting again, then installed and activated the Elementor Developer Edition again.

With the same result.

I initially also tried to deactivate all plugins (such as ACF, Code Snippets Pro) except Elementor and Elementor Pro and then got the developer version again. That didn't work either. The error instantly appears upon activation of the developer edition.

You're not supposed to install and activate the plugin @KHcreative.

Keep it un-installed, then rollback to a stable version, then install the proper beta version..

Forget about this plugin, it's not intended for beta testing.

You are absolutely correct. Sorry for the misunderstanding.

I mixed up my localhosts. One has always the dev version for testing some things out and one is a simple beta testing site. It appears that I activated beta testing there accidentally and then didn't get what you were trying to tell me.

Thank you for releasing another solid beta.

In regards to the colour and hover state additions to the text editor element, are there any plans to implement link styles within the UI? For example, to bold, italic, and underline all hyperlinks within the text editor.

I understand that we can achieve this by using the site settings under Typography > Link Typography and setting the style and decoration. However, this will target all links (header, footer and in other places you may not wish to set these parameters). Yes, I can remove these styles from the header, footer and other places manually by overriding them.

As it currently stands, I have to use the Advanced > Custom CSS approach and implement selector a{ } attribute to apply those parameters to my text editor element.

It would be nice to have such controls within the UI to apply these styling attributes. Or I may be looking into an issue which really isn't an issue :-)

As we explained during the web.fwrd 2025 event, we will be releasing V4 features gradually, as opt-ins, so we can ensure they are solid and functional. This should happen starting at Q4 Q2, and should go on until the end of the year, maybe further or earlier. We can't pinpoint an ETA because it is still a work in progress.

Yes, of course - make it even more complicated so that no normal user understands what it means. It's already enough that Elementor pollutes the admin bar with something like this.

I must admit, I'm a bit surprised by the change in terminology from your original announcement of "Clear Cache" to now "Clear Files & Data". I understand the sentiments behind it and what the button does to clear elementor styles etc.

However, if I were a novice user and saw this button, I would immediately think that it would wipe my entire website, along with all my files and data that control it, potentially causing downtime without a clear understanding what you mean by data and files. Some users may see this button and decide not to click it due to that very reason.

The term "Clear Cache" makes more sense, as caching and history are familiar concepts associated with browsers, and users have encountered this terminology before.

What are your thoughts?

Actually, we made the change due to user feedback that they were very confused by 'clear cache' as if it would conflict with other cache plugins.
The wording 'Files & Data' is the original terminology we've been using for many years, and instead of 'regenrating', it's now says 'clear', which is much more accurate and describes what the button actually does

I wonder if Google Fonts Local and their associated css files wouldn't be a good idea to be deleted when using "Clear Files and Data".

We were also discussing it. Some sites use many Google fonts, and downloading them for local use takes longer than average.
Clearing them each time the user clicks "Clear Files and Data" will cause them to re-download again, impacting the next site loading (each time after the "Clear Files and Data" button was clicked), so for now, we prefer not to go that route

I understand your point and it's probably the right one. But I think downloaded fonts remain stored locally even if the use of Google Fonts is disabled. Or maybe I'm wrong? In that case I don't think they are needed anymore. I can imagine a situation where an indecisive customer asks to change the fonts used several times. This way downloaded fonts can remain stored indefinitely even if they are never used. It's probably not a real problem, but why keep the garbage if we can get rid of it?

I see your point, I think that, if needed, the user (using 'file manager' or FTP) can always go to wp-content > uploads > elementor > google fonts and delete the unused files.. but it's a bit risky to do it manually (and by mistake delete a file that is in use) and also not initiative for some users so I also don't recommend doing so,
I'll pass on your feedback to our R&D department.. we will see if there is an option to implement in the future some kind of 'refresh local google fonts' action to redownload only the active fonts and delete the unused ones, but I can't commit to when this capability will be ready

Hi @efintina - if the user changes options in the 'Google Fonts Load' (no matter which option) it should clear Google Fonts local files and download updated fonts (the next time the site front is loaded) - which seems to fit your request, can you test it on your end and see that it's working?
