For one special meetup event each month should we play games other than standard chess ?

I have some board games and various chess variant games.

There is going to be an "issue" or task to start with to add a new page / section on our new website for our games list and we also need a space for some photos of the games.

So we already sometimes play a chess variant but there are other cool games.

I was thinking a new location for a meetup once a month in the city center.

Jimmy has previously suggested playing at Grill'd Wintergarden again and I think we need a fully indoor venue.

I want the event on a Friday or Saturday night. We had the 10 year event on a Saturday night.

I want to be the host for this special event every month 👨‍🎨

@jbampton Righto, so you're suggesting we corrupt our pure chess souls with the dark arts of... checks notes ...actual board games? 😏
As a chess purist, I'd normally suggest we stick to the 64 squares of perfection, but I'll grudgingly admit there might be merit in expanding horizons for one special monthly event. Though personally, the only "variant" I'd genuinely get excited about is chessboxing - alternating rounds of boxing and chess. Nothing says "think fast" quite like calculating your next move whilst nursing a bruised jaw! 🥊♟️
For those who find martial contact a bit much, we could always do chess-running instead - alternate between 5km runs and chess rounds. Same principle of switching between physical exertion and strategic thinking, but with less risk of accidentally checkmating someone's nose! Though I suspect the real challenge would be calculating piece values whilst your lungs are screaming for mercy.

Thanks @garveybiz for setting me straight !! I had some time to think about logistics and public transport trips for me carrying gear.

So I came up with a fantastic idea which is suitable for me. I think if we standardize to just one game it will be a lot easier as the months go by.

I have four: 12x12 squared vinyl boards and we could have this special event once a month to play the official Quaternity Chess game.

That means we have 16 people and 4 games of chess all ready !!

It is amazing 4 player chess variant and we have played it on two occasions already at Brisbane Social Chess meetups

I am a member of the official Quaternity Discord Server and I do also own an official wooden Quaternity chess set. I also played one game of Quaternity online and even won that first game !!

We have four photos of the last BSC Quaternity game match up at Roma Street Parklands one Sunday on the BSC GitHub organization homepage here:

And in that game I was Yellow and came second and Bruce was purple and won.

All four of us blokes that Sunday had an amazing day.

And lastly we could even make our own four player chess variant for Brisbane Social Chess !!

We could market this idea and game. Just adds more value and fun.

We can still use the 12x12 boards just have different pieces or setups.

Dear John and Robert

I personally would like to see variants included in special days of the club and limited to those meetups. Variants are cool and fun. We just need to make sure people know which meetup they are going to.

So, for example, every 3rd Monday meetup is variants.

Not sure if people are familiar with it there, and it goes with the spirit of the chess club members.

So, just a suggestion!
