After working on this quite a bit more and partnering with Copilot on this I've had some better luck. I'd love to see this kind of advice make its way into samples or other tutorials.

Findings

  • It was a bit surprising to me but referencing the [Index Name] instead of the underlying tool 'azure_ai_search' seemed to yield better results. I'd love to know if this is consistent with others experience or expected behavior?
  • Even after getting slightly more reliable searching by instructing the agent to "must search the [Index Name]" it would still assume what it could find and if it felt like it wasn't categorically available it would skip the search and tell me it could not ans…
