shared user in adonis inertia config is not coming into vue props

Out of the box, the adonis inertia.js config file had this section of code:

sharedData: {
    user: (ctx) => ctx.inertia.always(() => ctx.auth.user),
},

But in my vue components, when I add user to defineProps it is undefined.

What am I missing? The documentation on the AdonisJS site doesn't go into much detail.

I am using Ally to sign in with microsoft, and then creating a user. Here is my controller that does that:

Are your routes using the auth middleware? Because the auth.user property is only populated when you either use the auth middleware or manually call auth.authenticate method. This section from the docs explains it more https://docs.adonisjs.com/guides/authentication/session-guard#getting-access-to-the-logged-in-user
