Application split into modules

Is there a way how to split larger app into modules ? Default directory structure assumes app folder with controller, model etc subfolders. Can we have a multiple app folders or create modules folders under app directroy? Something like:

app

……. /projects

…………./controller

…………/model

……../tasks

…………/controller

……../invoices

Hopefully its clear. Simply to make a directory structure for better distinction for particular modules .

Ok, answering my own question. I found the following repo as an example of directory structure exactly as required:
