Manually triggerable custom addons

I have looked through BaseAddon and examples and there doesn't to seem to be any way to trigger add-on from the UI on demand.
Only through linked events.

I see hints that it existed in the past and was removed? Is there any way to trigger manually (on component or project) an addon (to run a script or call a hook). Separately from event / lifecycle (it shouldn't require changes in git or translations).

There is no such feature, and I don't think it ever existed. You are welcome to open a feature request for that.

Maybe you can have it usually disabled and once in a while you go and BOOM
