No, there isn't. What exactly are you trying to do? Ravenports is not an application that you would usually want to run in a container - it's a packaging system / packaging framework. If you want to try out RP, you can just do the bootstrap on any somewhat recent Linux distro (feel free to use a VM or a container). After bootstrapping the package manager rvn you can install software from binary packages or start building your own packages from ports.

Yes. I really like Solaris zones and OmniOSce is doing some fascinating stuff. But I'm not sure where Docker fits into into that picture.

Sorry, I've even played around with them in the past. I still don't get what you're aiming at here. If there was an "Ravenports branded zone" on OmniOSce, that would mean the rvn package manager was present there. For me at least, Docker is a fundamentally different thing. That's why I'm a bit confused about what you're actually trying to do here. Do you maybe have an example that illustrates a use case rather than asking me to some rather unspecific reading?

I'm sorry. It's me that don't understand how Solaris zones work. It's OS-level virtualization, should be compare to LXC instead of Docker.

I don't know. I could imagine some value in a docker container.
definitely low priority but I bet it can be done. Again I'd look to a linux-focused person to pick up projects like this.

I might attempt to build a docker image.
I could actually use it. I have access to a beefy linux machine and using docker to build linux package sets could be really value to me.
Let's reopen this discussion.

I'm making good progress on this.
It should be completely feasible to build a container from a dockerfile that will result in a full functional build box.
It might be a few days to work out the kicks but it seems promising.

two points:

1. don't use it yet. I'm trying to create a new set of linux packages. it's building on an ancient machine right now. I'm actually going to use this docker image on a beefy machine to produce packages much faster. Anyway, best to create the docker image on the upcoming publish packages.

2. it supports building releases, but not from a ravensource tree. I'm going to add that functionality very soon.

bonus point -- eventually I expect there to be a musl-based version of this docker composition.

I was able to build the entire ravenports tree with the rdocker image composition, including signing it.
It's fully functional now.

when the container is restarted, all changes to the image are reverted, so when "rvn" and "ravenadm" or even ravensys-root changes become required, the image will have to be rebuilt against the last package release. The current package set should last a long time though.
