What are your favorite / useful things that you put on your ~/.bashrc file?

Hi all,

Open question as to whether you customize your ~/.bashrc file and if so, how are you setting it up.

Share what you're putting in there along with any appropriate explanations of what they are doing so others can learn. I will go first

# Software update
alias sync='sudo moss repo update && sudo moss sync'

# Ping 10 times
alias ping='ping -c 10'

#confirmation
alias rm='rm -i'
alias mv='mv -i'
alias cp='cp -i'
alias ln='ln -i'

# Confirm your external IP
alias ipe='curl ipinfo.io/ip'

#Open up file browser
alias files='nautilus .'
alias sfiles='nautilus admin:/'

# Change directory aliases
alias home='cd ~'
alias cd..='cd ..'
alias ..='cd ..'
alias ...='cd ../..'
alias ....='cd ../../..'
alias .....='cd ../../../..'

# Search command line history
alias h="history | grep "

# Search files in the current folder
alias f="find . | grep "

The best way to do this currently is actually to add files ending in .*sh inside .bashrc.d/, such as ~/.bashrc.d/90-aliases.bash.

This way, you will benefit from any changes made upstream to the default shell experience, yet still retain your changes.
