Google Photos doesn't work on Microsoft Edge (based on Chromium)

Thanks for the wonderful photscreensaver. It works fine on Chrome. But when I tried on Microsoft Edge (based on Chromium) on Windows 10 OS...

1. I am able to install the extension from Chrome store
2. Preview shows that the extension is working fine (with images from Chromecast)
3. I am able to allow "Manage access to Google Photos" and verify "Current Status: Allowed"
4. When I try to "Select Google Photos", I get

Not signed in to Chrome
Please sign in to Chrome with the account that has your Google Photos.

I can open another tab and go to https://photos.google.com and I am able to see my Photos/Albums. Hence, I do know I am signed in...
