Could the mcpo bridge create a general OpenAI tool that has a description something like, "find objects that this tool can work with"?, and then have that tool just call the mcp resources/list function? Then the LLM could potentially reason about calling that tool first?

Is the lack of support for MCP resources in MCPO the reason why MCP servers like playwright and server-sequential-thinking are limited, or why server-filesystem doesn't deliver results like they do via Claude Desktop?

If so, it would be great if you could consider this in your planning of future features.

I have a setup with an Ollama AI server in the LAN (Mac silicon-based) and OpenWebUI via Docker on the Mac clients in the LAN, accessing the AI server plus local MCPO via config.json file. Locally on the Macs in order to provide machine-specific MCP servers – especially accessing the filesystem and terminal. This setup works excellently with many MCP servers (whois-mcp, server-brave-search, mcp-server-fetch, mcp-server-time). Some work limited: server-sequential-thinking, playwright. Some not at all: apple-mcp, applesript-mcp, mcp-ical, office-powerpoint-mcp-server, office-word-mcp-server, desktop-commander.

Tried several (tools capable) LLMs on the Ollama server. I learned that this makes also a drifference…

Anyone with experiences and insights on this? I would be very happy to continue the discussion.
